Today Second Judicial Children’s Court Judge William Parnall ruled the 13 year-old charged with an open count of murder will remain in custody as his case goes through the judicial process.
ย
Investigators say Monday evening, 23 year-old Sydney Wilson spotted her stolen car at the Smiths on Coors and Central. The teens crashed the car, and as they walked away, Wilson asked why they damaged her car. Police say the 13 year-old pulled out a gun and fatally shot Wilson.
ย
“I am very disturbed by the numerous shootings in this town. There are too many kids with too many guns,” Judge Parnall said during today’s hearing.
ย
Family members of the victim watched today’s hearing.
ย
“I’m relieved that this juvenile will be detained because of the dangerousness of juveniles with guns,” said Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman.
ย
“Juveniles with guns are out of control and we’re going to do everything we can to hold these teens accountable to ensure the safety of the community,” Bregman said.
