Office Divisions
The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office has a team of dedicated professionals who evaluate the approximately 25,000 cases a year referred by law enforcement partners in the Albuquerque Police Department, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department, New Mexico State Police, and other police agencies. Despite the volume of cases, our team works hard every day to prosecute cases on behalf of the people of Bernalillo County.
Our office currently consists of the following prosecutorial divisions:
Major Crimes Unit
The Major Crimes Unit specializes in serious violent felonies, such as homicides, kidnapping, and armed robberies as well as in prosecuting high impact individuals who drive crime. This division also implements a trauma-informed approach to prosecuting felony sexual assaults, rapes, and domestic violence cases.
General Crimes Unit
The General Crimes Unit handles general felony prosecutions, including drug-trafficking and auto-theft cases.
Juvenile Crimes Division
The Juvenile Crimes Division intervenes when young people in our community commit misdemeanor and felony crimes.
Metro Court Division
The Metro Court Division prosecutes misdemeanor crimes, including domestic violence, 1st-3rd offense DWI cases, fraud, theft, and prostitution cases.
