Apodaca was charged with the murder and conspiracy with respect to the death of Elias Otero. However, his plea only reflects his role in the robbery and carjacking of Nicholas Otero and Richard Archuleta.
Investigators say in February 2021 a woman used a dating APP to meet Archuleta and Otero’s brother at a park. There a group of men robbed him, then forced him to drive to his family’s home. Elias Otero came out of the house to try and protect his brother when he was shot and killed. In April, Apodaca pled guilty to robbery for his part in the crime.
The suspected shooter is scheduled to go on trial in 2024.
