Mercado-Rangel had car trouble as he and the female tried to leave the area. Investigators say Camacho and his friend, Erick Garcia offered to help, but instead Camacho fatally shot Mercado-Rangel, then forced the female into the victim’s car and drove her back to Albuquerque.

The female jumped out of the car and was able to get away. Camacho will likely spend 25 years in the Department of Corrections. Sentencing will take place at a later date.

Co-Defendant Erick Garcia’s case is still pending.
