Today Marco Trejo took at plea as a youthful offender and admitted to second-degree murder.
In February 2022, he shot and killed 16-year-old Andrew Burson outside the West Mesa High School campus.
Trejo, who was 14 at the time of the murder, will stay in Custody at a juvenile facility until he is 21.
Family members of the victim said they will continue to work with others in the community and legislature to change laws so that there are more severe consequences for youths who commit violent crimes. They also said trauma needs should be addressed as well.
