A Former Teacher Convicted of Raping Second-Grade Student Was Sentenced To Maximum Punishment Allowed By Law.
Today, a judge sentenced Danny Aldaz to 57 years in the Department of Corrections.
In August, a jury convicted Aldaz of two counts of criminal sexual penetration of a child under 13 and 2 counts of criminal sexual contact.
In 2018 and 2019, he raped a seven-year-old little girl, one of his students. The crimes happened inside his classroom, where he taught second grade in Albuquerque.
“This predator will never be able to hurt another child again. He will spend the rest of his life in prison where he belongs,” said Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman.
Today Aldaz was also indicted for the sexual abuse of another child and faces multiple additional trials in connection with charges of sexually assaulting other students.
“Today, I said enough is enough. It’s time we start putting our children’s lives ahead of their abusers,” said Bernalillo County Senior Trial Attorney Rebekah Reyes.
After today’s 57-year prison sentence, the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s office will meet with family members of other children and determine if it’s in their best interest to move forward with those trials.
The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s office would also like to thank detectives with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office for their diligent work on these cases.
