The Metro Court Division prosecutes misdemeanor crimes, including domestic violence cases, 1st-3rd offense DWI cases, and most recently, are fully prosecuting shoplifting cases, which were primarily prosecuted by police officers in the past. The Metro Court Division is a key component in training attorneys who are new to the practice of law. In this division, new attorneys are trained through a well-established training program, designed by our Chief Deputy District Attorneys. In the training program, attorneys are taught the fundamentals of practicing law in Bernalillo County, including extensive trial work, motion writing, arguments, and professionalism.
