JURY CONVICTS MAN OF SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TEEN -- This afternoon, a jury convicted Darrell Castillo of two counts of Second Degree Criminal Sexual Penetration of a Minor. The crimes happened in February 2018 and the victim was 17 years old. Castillo was dating the victim's mother. DNA linked Castillo to the crimes. He faces up to 30 years in the New Mexico Corrections Department. Sentencing will take place June 23. Our SAKI Unit (Cold Case Rape Team) prosecuted this case. 12-YEAR-OLD CHARGED WITH BRINGING GUN TO SCHOOL — WILL BE RELEASED FROM DETENTION FACILITY Late Thursday afternoon, a hearing officer said a 12-year-old who brought a gun and ammunition to school will be released from a juvenile detention facility and monitored at home. BACKGROUND: Police say the suspect stole the gun from his mother's boyfriend and brought it to Tres Volcanes Community Collaborative School on Monday. Investigators say the boy also showed the gun to elementary school students. Staff at the school found out and located the gun in the student's backpack. Police arrested the student, and the Bernalillo County District Attorney's Office filed a motion to keep the suspect in custody. In 2019, Gordon, a family friend of the victim, started touching the child. Her best friend saw it happen and told the victim's mother. The victim's mom then confronted Gordon, and his response was, "You should have been watching her." He also commented about what the child was wearing. ALBUQUERQUE – Federal authorities have arrested 16 individuals and seized record-breaking quantities of fentanyl, cash, firearms, and vehicles across multiple states, dismantling one of the largest and most dangerous drug trafficking organizations in U.S. history.

BACKGROUND: APRIL 17, rescue crews were dispatched to a property in the 7400 Block of Sanchez near Isleta in SW Albuquerque. Investigators believe Martinez set a shed on fire, with multiple dogs inside the structure. 14 dogs perished in the fire. 2 were unaccounted for.
