JURY CONVICTS MAN OF KIDNAPPING, AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A WOMAN IN COLD CASE RAPE
Today, a jury convicted Erik Thomas Lea of First-Degree Kidnapping and 2 Counts of Criminal Sexual Penetration.

JURY CONVICTS MAN OF KIDNAPPING, AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A WOMAN IN COLD CASE RAPE
Today, a jury convicted Erik Thomas Lea of First-Degree Kidnapping and 2 Counts of Criminal Sexual Penetration. 
BACKGROUND: 
June 2006, Lea kidnapped a woman in the parking lot outside an Albuquerque business on Menaul and Wyoming.  He forced her into her car, then forced her to drive to a secluded area where he raped her. 
Our SAKI Unit (Cold Case Rape Team) prosecuted this case.
In just two years, they have convicted 23 people of cold case rapes.

Late this afternoon, a jury convicted Dominic Martinez of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor and Criminal Sexual Penetration of a Minor.
This case involves the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old boy at Martinez's home. DNA linked him to the crimes.

JURY CONVICTS MAN OF STREET RACING MORE THAN 100 MPH, KILLING TWO PEOPLE -- 
Today a jury convicted Andy Doreste-Saumell of multiple crimes, including 2 counts of Vehicular Homicide, Reckless Driving, Child Abuse, and Great Bodily Injury by Vehicle. 

BACKGROUND: 
OCTOBER 8, 2023, Doreste-Saumell was racing with another car on Louisiana near Dellwood NE, when the other racer crashed into a third vehicle. Jenna Hamilton was killed in the crash.
The driver of the car that was racing with Doreste-Saumell, Tyler Turnbull also died. 
Multiple children who were passengers in the vehicles involved were injured.  
Testing on Doreste-Saumells car showed he was driving at 103 MPH when the crash happened.

Doreste-Saumell faces up to two decades in the New Mexico Corrections Department.  
Sentencing will take place at a later date.

MAN CHARGED WITH HITTING CHILD OVER THE HEAD WITH A BOTTLE, THEN SLICING HER NECK, HAS BEEN INDICTED.
This week, a grand jury indicted Nichalas San Souci with Abuse of a Child Resulting in Great Bodily Harm, Aggravated Battery/Deadly Weapon, and 
Aggravated Assault/Deadly Weapon. 

BACKGROUND: 
Investigators say April 25, 2025, an 8-year-old little girl was looking at a waterfall inside an Albuquerque restaurant when San Souci hit the child over the head with a beer bottle
then sliced her neck with the broken bottle.  The child was seriously injured and needed 19 stitches.  She did not know San Souci.  He is being detained pending trial and is due in court again Monday.

WOMAN WHO DROVE DRUNK CAUSING A DEADLY HEAD-ON CRASH -- SENTENCED
Adamaris Martinez was sentenced to 13 years in the New Mexico Corrections Department for drinking, driving, and killing Jade Lucero and seriously injuring Jade's fiancée, Colter Anderson.
The judge gave Martinez the maximum punishment allowed under New Mexico Law.

WOMAN WHO DROVE DRUNK CAUSING A DEADLY HEAD-ON CRASH -- SENTENCED
Adamaris Martinez was sentenced to 13 years in the New Mexico Corrections Department for drinking, driving, and killing Jade Lucero and seriously injuring Jades fiancée, Colter Anderson.
The judge gave Martinez the maximum punishment allowed under New Mexico Law.  

BACKGROUND: 
January 21, 2024, Jade Lucero and her fiancée were driving on Paseo Del Norte, when they were hit head-on by Martinez.  Martinez was drunk, driving the wrong way, when she plowed into the couple. In December 2024, she pleaded guilty to Vehicular Homicide, DWI Great Bodily Harm.  

She was given two weeks to get her affairs in order before turning herself in. She is currently at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
