Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office Crime Strategies Unit Launches Shooting Dashboard

Albuquerque, NM – The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office recently launched an internal platform that tracks reported shootings with injury or homicide throughout the city.

The dashboard is a centralized place to access data on shooting trends throughout the city. It also provides insight on whether these shootings may be gang related, the number of suspects, the shooting solvability and the odds of another shooting in that area.

Special Agent in Charge of the Special Investigations Bureau at the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office, Kyle Hartsock, said the dashboard helps identify emerging crime patterns.

“[We’re able to determine if] specific law enforcement action should be taken to try to curve the violence out of any particular group,” Hartsock said. “What’s nice is that it’s all just in one place.”

The Dashboard is updated by CSU, combining shooting data from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and APD. Hartsock said the dashboard’s centralized accessibility allows several law enforcement agencies such as APD and the U.S. Attorney’s Office to review shooting trends throughout the city.

“[The dashboard] takes people away from just trying to compile numbers to actually doing something about the numbers,” Hartsock said. “[It] helps us keep performance marks so we can actually tell what’s going.”
